Interestingly no relation to a Brasserie in English. That's a type of restaurant which seems to have arrived via French meaning brewery.

Yes, it definitely arrived via French. Like an enormous amount of English words. Blame the Plantagenêts. Or start with William (the Conqueror).

Nice to sit out there if you've had too much to eat.
