Is this a bench honoring those who fought for the Union during the Civil War or is it a bench for tired union employees, veterans perhaps, of fights with corporate moneymongers?

The crack down the middle seems symbolic.
I actually think it looks quite comfortable, if you had a cushion.
I love Dina's comment. There was a cannon peeping over the back of the bench until sometime during the past couple of years. I'm not sure when they took it away or where they put it. It's less menacing now.

Is that the San Andreas fault under this bench? I would not sit in the middle! ;)
